5 ways to combat rising food costs

(that don’t involve coupons, apps, or discount crab trucks)

The other night, a truck pulled up to our apartment complex outside Busan, Korea, selling discounted crabs that had been caught that morning. An announcement was made, and my husband went to join the line of other apartment residents buying their share of crab. My husband and toddler devoured a couple for dinner that night, and we still have 10 of them left in our freezer.

Not everyone has access to randomly appearing discount crab trucks, however.

So the rest of us need to find other strategies for dealing with the effects of inflation on our grocery budgets.

Anyone who keeps a household budget will tell you that this has been tough to do right now. And even if you don’t budget, you’re still probably noticing that your grocery bills have been rising.

My own take on this issue is less about the doom and gloom and a lot more about using the situation as an opportunity to become more aware and intentional about the ways we use our money.

It’s easy to let our shopping, cooking, and eating habits run on autopilot, and we might not always be aware of just how much we are wasting. Or how much we are spending on things that we really don’t need. But with inflation…
