I would suggest that another reason is that one spouse is more committed than another, or that there are simply different priorities or different ideas about what constitutes a good enough quality of life. In my opinion, compromise here is more important than adhering to an artificial FIRE deadline, so it's not necessarily always a problem that these differences exist.
