I’ve been in business for myself for the past ten years doing private test prep tutoring. Since then, I’ve grown my business from something that brought in a little money on the side to something that fully supports my family of three.

Along the way, there’s been a lot to learn: business accounting, marketing, website creation, and all the other businessy things. I’ve read books, watched countless YouTube videos, and taken courses.

But some of the most important lessons I’ve learned haven’t actually been directly business-related.

In this post, I want to share the top five non-business books that have had the biggest impact on my business.

The ONE Thing

The ONE Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, is the ultimate book about prioritization, focus, and defining your most important task. The crux of the book is that by focusing on one thing at a time–and making sure that we are smart about what that one task is–we accomplish a lot more than if we try to split our focus among different tasks.

Keller and Papasan suggest we ask ourselves the following question:
